Referee Training

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

Regional

Regionals can be the Referee for U7, U8, and U10 games and Assistant Referee for U12 games. The minimum age to do U7 and U8 games is 10.  The minimum age to do U10 games is 12. Certification requires all of the following steps. Until you have completed all of them, we will not be able to assign you to any games.

1.  Register with AYSO at eAYSO. Follow the Instructions at Register on eAYSO website.

2.  Take and pass the online Safe Haven Course at AYSO On Line Training.

3. Take and pass the online Basic Course. Follow the first three points at Register on eAYSO as in 2 above. For point 4, click on Referee - Cours Roo2 instead of the Safe Haven course.

4. Take the Basic Course Companion Course. This is an all day,  in-person course given at Portola Valley Town Center. See schedule below

5. Pass the Regional Referee Exam given at the end of the Companion Course

 We give this training in our Region or you can take it in other regions.


       Intermediate

Intermediates can be the Referee for U12 games and Assistant Referee for U14  games. The minimum age for an Intermediate referee is 14. Certification requires all of the following steps

1. Be a certified Regional Referee
2. Referee or Assistant Referee 25 full games with at least five of them as Referee at the U12 level.
3. Take the Intermediate Referee Course
4. Pass the Intermediate Referee Exam
5. Be observed/mentored as Referee for at least one U12 game

 We give this training in our Region or you can take it in other regions.

Advanced and National

The requirements for certification at these levels are considerably more challenging.         They require several years of training and game experience.

We do not give this training in our Region.
